“Motion” composes the leitmotiv; theme of my works. Beginning and end meet at the same point in a circle. The path to the wrong and the true is the same. Heraclites’ quotes of “Opposition brings concord. Out of discord comes the fairest harmony” and “There is nothing permanent except change” impressed me very much.

The symbols I used in my works depict “earth, water, air and fire” and include these four elements. Textures, signs and symbols of sun and moon on my canvas depict that objects are not fixed in their position in the system. And they also depict that all the processes which determine the shape of things are in motion.

My aim is to speculate the disequilibrium in equilibrium and make it perceivable through both the opposition and coalition of colors.

Juror's Statement
HAVVA MARTA of Izmir, Turkey has developed a body of work with the subject matter of the phoenix. Of particular note is “Anka 4 (Phoenix 4)” which has the brilliance of blues, reds, greens and yellows. The strength of character is developed in her black and white oil “Anka 6 (Phoenix 6)”. Additionally, her piece “Anka 10 (Phoenix 10)” shows the imagery in yet another way with the strong linear developments.
