PRESS RELEASE

AREA ARTIST HAVVA MARTA RECEIVES SPECIAL RECOGNITION

Artist HAVVA MARTA of Karsiyaka, Izmir, Turkey has received a Special
Recognition Merit Award for the artwork “The Turn” in the “8th Annual
Collage & Mixed Media Art International Online Juried Exhibition”
hosted by Upstream People Gallery at www.upstreampeoplegallery.com.

This international exhibition received approximately 200 entries from
around the world and 42 artists were selected by the juror Larry
Bradshaw, Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Professor Bradshaw states this about these specially recognized works:

“Havva Marta of Karsiyaka, Izmir, Turkey masterfully works with detail.
In “The Turn” the school of fish moving in circularity together with
the other circular elements works well with a turning rhythm.”

The exhibition will be on display online at
www.upstreampeoplegallery.com for 12 months through May 31, 2007.

Further comments about the artist’s works in her own words are as
follows:
I set out a journey through my paintings, maybe initiated with a sentence, not knowing the end of it. While making my journey in my works on a canvas, I reflect the excitement I feel through colours and images on my mind.

The story of “TheTurn” is the philosophy of journey to the world of chaotic paradigm; that is, not a linear world.  The utterance of Heraklitos “You cannot swim twice in the same water.” motivated me to work. A motion created through a transition which is never inactive and changing constantly from disorder to orderliness emphasized the dialectic thinking in my paintings through fish images. The symbols of circles, spirals and stylized sun and moon symbolize the beginning of the universe as chaotic.

Chaotic systems are dynamic systems. In a chaotic system motionlessness and change are like circles fitted one within the other. Order; that is, balance dose not continue long. It is the point at which the energy and the movement in the system come to an end.

Life: a process of change and metamorphism.

Dynamism in the “The Turn” was emphasized with circles fitted one within the other.
